Calgary Stampede launches phone app to help visitors plan park events

With just over a week until the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” the Calgary Stampede is launching an app to help visitors navigate events at the park.

This is the first time Stampede goers can plan their experience through an app, which details multiple show times and information on their phones.

“Our new app is your digital tour guide to see, taste, and experience everything the ‘Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth’ has to offer,” Calgary Stampede spokesperson Shannon Greer told CityNews.

The app has a schedule, which will include information on “everything happening on Stampede Park that day.”

Stampede goers can also create their own personalized calendar of activities and events they wish to attend. There is a search function to help users find what they are looking for.

“So if you’re coming down to Stampede Park, and you aren’t sure what you want to do, you can explore in the app and then actually build your schedule,” Greer explained.

“So if you know that, definitely, you want to go to the rodeo and you’re looking for some activities to do before and after, you can pull those into your schedule on the app and basically have a calendar of activities of all the different things that you want to do that day.”

However, the move to using an app to direct people doesn’t mean the longtime booklets visitors would typically find and pick up will be going away.

“If you are someone who wants to just have that book in your hands, they still will be available when you come on to Stampede Park,” she said.

The app includes a map and “up-to-the-minute” show times and events. Visitors can also buy tickets for the rodeo or shows at the Saddledome through the app.

The new app is meant to help with this as it includes a digital map to help users find those attractions.
