National Bank Challenger returns to Calgary

Tennis fans, mark Nov. 5 to 12 in your calendars.

The Calgary National Bank Challenger is back for a fourth time, and this will be the tournament’s second edition to feature both a men’s and women’s pro event.

“We believe hosting a women’s event in Calgary is an important step towards providing more opportunities for females in the sport of tennis,” tournament director Danny Da Costa explained.

The Challenger has featured some of the globe’s best players on its courts, including current world number four Casper Ruud, Sabine Lisicki, Tommy Robredo, and Canadian stalwart Vasek Pospisil.

Over 10,000 fans went through the turnstiles last year at the Alberta Tennis Centre for the sold-out competition, and Da Costa says it contributed over $3.2 million to the provincial and local economy.

“We look forward to delivering another world-class event that showcases our wonderful sport and incredible city,” he added.

The ATP World Tour and the International Tennis Federation sanction the Calgary tournament.

Tickets are already on sale and start at $20 a day.
