Three-year-old in crash while on ATV died: Airdrie RCMP

Airdrie RCMP says a three-year-old died following a mid-June two-vehicle crash between an ATV and a pickup truck.

They say she died on June 20, while a 10-year-old was injured in the crash and has since been released from hospital.

Officers say the girls were on an off-highway vehicle (OHV) on June 17 when they collided with a pick-up truck near the community of Lindon.

The driver of the pickup wasn’t hurt.

“Our thoughts are with the girls, the family, and the community that are affected by this tragic incident,” Airdrie RCMP said in a statement,

At the time, police say the girls were the only two people in the vehicle, but they could not say whether an adult was supervising them.

Mounties say the investigation is ongoing.

Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act, Off-Highway Vehicle Regulation prohibits a person under 14 from driving an off-highway vehicle on a highway, and it also states anyone under 14 who rides an OHV on public property must be supervised by an adult who is also on the OHV or is in a vehicle travelling nearby.
