Tornado warning issued for south of Calgary ends: ECCC

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) tornado warning for those in Foothills County, just south of Calgary, ended just after 5 p.m.

The warning was issued at around 4:30 p.m. because meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that could produce a tornado just west of Okotoks.

“Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible,” the agency said.

At this time, there is also a thunderstorm watch for Calgary and areas within Foothills County.

“Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches,” the ECCC said.

“If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately.”
