Weekend 1 of Calgary Stampede breaks records
The first weekend of the 111th Calgary Stampede was one for the books — in more ways than one.
Several records were broken over the first few days.
On day one, over 160,000 people showed up to take in the festivities — the largest number of people ever to walk through the gates at Stampede Park on opening day.

Attendees weren’t shy about chowing down either. The Stampede broke its own record and a Guinness World Record for the most pancakes served in eight hours Sunday.

The record to beat was 14,000, which was easily devoured — more than 17,000 flapjacks were served up at the GMC Stadium Courtyard to kick off Family Day at the Stampede Grounds.
Guinness World Record authenticators were on scene to witness the delicious accomplishment.

As for what to expect for day four of the Greatest Show on Earth, there is lots to do — plenty of pancake breakfasts are flipping off Monday morning, including the Premier’s Breakfast at the McDougall Centre which runs until 9 a.m.
And, much like other days, there are several concerts to take in at various venues, and countless other activities to take in at the grounds.
