Weather advisory for Calgary ends: ECCC

Calgarians heading to the Stampede grounds Tuesday evening can enjoy the weather as a weather advisory issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) ended.

The advisory, which started at noon and ended at around 6 p.m., said the conditions were favourable for thunderstorms that produce funnel clouds and would last until the evening.

The ECC says these types of funnel clouds are generated by “weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms.”

It states the weak rotation is not a danger near the ground, but adds there was a chance the rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

Meteorologists said if conditions remained favourable for the development of landspout tornadoes, they would issue watches and warnings.
