Over 65,000 illegal cigarettes were seized from a rural property, and 18 charges have been placed on suspects arrested during a Strathmore RCMP investigation.

Officers say the investigation happened Monday at around 10 a.m. at a rural property on Glenmore Road in Rocky View County.

Mounties seized a rifle, shotgun, carbine style rifle, and an automatic carbine style rifle with an extended capacity magazine and silencer, and ammo.

They also seized 328 cartons, or 65,500 cigarettes, 150 packs of edible cannabis products containing THC, around 1,000 illegal cannabis cigarettes, about three litres of “liquid THC,” 150 grams of psilocybin, 50 grams of dried cannabis, 300 grams of suspected cannabis hash product, several boxes of vaping devices, and more than $5,000 in cash.

Investigators arrested a 40-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman, and a 24-year-old woman, all from Rocky View County.

They were all interviewed and released to appear at a later date.

The three face a combined 18 charges, which include four counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, six counts of possession of a prohibited firearm or device, unlawful possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking, fraud, possession of psilocybin, various counts of possession of cigarettes in various amounts, and the selling, transportation, or possession of contraband tobacco.

Mounties say the investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be laid.

“This search, seizure, and arrest of involved individuals was a result of the cumulative work of our General Investigation Section and Enhanced Rocky View County position to remove contraband products from our communities,” said S Sgt. Mark Wielgosz.
