Calgary Stampeders rename McMahon broadcast booth in honour of late announcer Dan Carson

Friends, family, and fans of renowned Calgary broadcaster gathered over the weekend to mark his life.

At McMahon Stadium, the Calgary Stampeders honoured his life in its own way with a video presentation.

Carson’s voice could often be heard on CityNews 660’s airwaves weekend afternoons. But before coming to our newsroom, Carson worked in Calgary radio for over three decades and spent 31 years announcing Stamps games.

“Dan Carson was truly one-of a-kind and the McMahon Stadium game day experience of Calgary and surrounding communities, and our Stampeders family, will not be the same without him,” the announcer said over the loudspeaker during Sunday’s game against the Ottawa Redblacks.

Carson was also known for his charitable work, as he participated in the Country 105 “Caring for Kids Radiothon,” which raised money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The broadcast booth at McMahon Stadium will now be called the Dan Carson Production Booth, in his honour, the Stamps announced Sunday.

The longtime Calgarian, who was originally from Smithers, B.C., died on June 27 at the age of 60.
