The Heritage Day long weekend proved to be a deadly one on Alberta roads, as four people died in vehicle accidents in just three days.
RCMP also issued more than 2,300 tickets over the weekend.
Between Aug. 4 and Aug 7, Mounties say officers doled out a total of 2,317 tickets.
More than half of the offences were for speeding, 23 of which were considered excessive, authorities say. Sixty-nine tickets were issued for seatbelt violations, and 38 were issued for distracted driving.
Alberta RCMP also charged 83 people with impaired driving.
Alberta RCMP reminds Albertans that traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility, and to phone 911 if you observe dangerous driving.
