Woman dead after being hit by CTrain downtown

A pedestrian has died after she was hit by a CTrain downtown Wednesday morning.

Calgary police say just before 9 a.m., officers were called to the tracks near Centre Street and 7 Avenue SE, for reports of a pedestrian collision involving a CTrain.

Investigators say a woman between 45 and 55 years old was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition.

She later died as a result of her injuries, according to police.

Southbound Centre Street was closed between 6 Avenue SE and 8 Avenue SE while police investigated.

Police said the closure was expected to be in place for several hours. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

Calgary Transit said just before 2 p.m. that 7 Avenue SE had reopened and trains were once again moving, though were behind schedule.
