Crews respond to small fire at Palliser Hotel

By Todd Kaufman

A small fire broke out at the historic Palliser Hotel in downtown Calgary on Wednesday night.

Reports on social media began coming in just before 9 p.m. showing fire trucks on scene and hoses strewn across 9th Avenue at 1 Street southwest.

The fire department says it began in some duct work close to the basement with lots of smoke but the fire itself was put out quickly.

An image on the city’s traffic cam page also showed the fire department at the scene and a crowd gathered across the street.

It’s also believed a number of hotel guests were relocated to the Marriott down the block.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
