One CityNews listener called in after spotting the flames from 52 Avenue.

“I was leaving on 52 (Avenue) and I seen this huge pile of smoke and I called 911,” he said, adding the dispatcher said crews had just been alerted.

Thirteen units were called to the blaze which broke out around 3 a.m.

Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department says several calls were received about the incident shortly after.

“We did the fire under control at 4:15 in the morning but the damage was to seven garages, four on one side of the alley, and three on the other, and damage to multiple homes due to the heat,” she explained.
