Fire crews on scene of multiple small explosions

Fire crews from Rocky View County, Airdrie, and Crossfield were all on site at a warehouse just outside of the city Wednesday morning.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen and there were some explosions that followed.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Evans with Rocky View County, the fire started at a waste recycling plant in south Balzac.
“We learned right away that we applied water to it, there was an explosive reaction to that — unknown what product was in there — fortunately the fire was contained to the contents and not the structure so we were able to take a defensive approach and see what took place,” he explained.
No injuries have been reported.
