One person was arrested and two others were hurt after gunfire erupted in a Calgary International Airport parking lot Wednesday, with police saying this appears to be “the result of a road rage incident.”
“We can confirm it was an actual firearm used, as opposed to an airsoft or imitation device,” CPS said in an email to CityNews.
It explains calls came in about shots being fired outside the airport, along Airport Road N.E., just after 12 p.m.
In an earlier email, police said one victim was treated for minor injuries, and that this shooting was “believed to be a targeted incident.”
However, EMS tells CityNews “two adults” were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
YYC took to social media just before 1 p.m. to say officers were on scene near the airport’s cellphone lot.

It added teams were assisting with traffic volumes and road closures in the area.
In a statement just before 3 p.m., the Calgary Airport Authority confirmed the incident had “no impacts” on the terminal or operations.
“YYC’s cellphone lot will be closed until further notice while CPS conducts its investigation into the incident,” the statement explained. “YYC is offering guests 30 minutes of free parking at our short-term parking lot until the cellphone lot has been reopened. Our teams are on site to assist with traffic volumes and roadway lane closures.”
