Calgary is the friendliest city in the world, according to the Condé Nast 2023 Readers Choice Awards, published Tuesday.

The media company recognized Calgary’s “welcoming multi-cultural community,” and highlights a mix of urban living and nature being close to the Rocky Mountains.

“You can see mountains from practically everywhere, and outdoor wonderlands like Lake Louise and Banff National Park are just a couple of hours away,”

The city edged Edmonton, who placed second on the list, by two points.

Alberta’s capital was touted as “fast becoming a sought-after destination thanks to its slower pace and community-oriented atmosphere.”

The two western cities were two of four Canadian cities on the list, joined by Victoria and Quebec City.

Dublin, Ireland; Mexico City, Mexico; Malaga, Spain; Izmir, Turkey; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Cartagena, Colombia rounded out the list.
