Calgary police have charged a man in connection to a hit-and-run that happened more than a year ago.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, around 2 a.m., officers were called to 6 Avenue SW and 7 Avenue SW, at the intersection near 4 Street SW, for reports of a hit-and-run involving pedestrians.
According to investigators, a four-door sedan wsa travelling north in the right lane.
As the vehicle passed through 7 Avenue SW, it struck a parked and unoccupied car, which was right against the curb, police say.
Police add the vehicle then went over the right curb and sideswiped the passenger side of a parked SUV, which was also along the right curb.
Standing near the open passenger side door of the parked SUV were three pedestrians, all in their early 20s, according to investigators.
The sedan hit all three people, one of which was thrown approximately 12 metres, and sustained serious, life-altering injuries as a result.
Police say the other two people suffered minor injuries.
The sedan also struck a parking sign, a bike rack, and a photo radar pole as it continued north and drove the rest of the block.
The vehicle eventually came back to the roadway at 6 Avenue SW where it came to a stop.
Investigators say the driver left the scene on foot.
All three pedestrians were taken to hospital.
On Wednesday, police charged 28-year-old Ashton Shaneil Prasad, of Calgary, with two counts of hit-and-run, three counts of hit-and-run causing bodily harm and three counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm.
He has a court date set for Dec. 7.
