Calgary police continue investigation into fatal Stoney Trail crash

Calgary police have confirmed a 50-year-old man died in a crash on Stoney Trail last week, as they continue to investigate the cause.

Investigators say around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, there was a collision at Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard NE.

Officers believe the man was driving a 2021 Ford Edge southbound on Stoney Trail NW, nearing the McKnight Boulevard overpass.

The vehicle left the roadway heading right and continued off the road, through the grass ditch, until it hit an overpass support beam on the west side of Stoney.

Police say the impact happened at a high speed and the driver was declared dead on scene.

Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the incident, but alcohol and drugs are not.

Anyone with dashcam footage, or has information about the incident is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
