A southwest Calgary family is devastated after their dog was stolen from their driveway in Lakeview.
Craig Johns tells CityNews, he left Rosco — their three-year-old German Shepherd — in his truck for just a moment to grab his wallet before heading out Wednesday morning just before 11 a.m.
But, seconds after running into his home, he heard his truck start.
His heart sunk, realizing that the pup was still in the truck.
“I actually ran out, saw the guy get in the vehicle, and then drive away with the dog in back seat,” Johns said. “The police came by shortly after but they couldn’t locate them anywhere.”
Johns said no one in his family is concerned about the truck, and are offering a $5,000 reward for Rosco’s safe return.

He says they’re extremely worried about Rosco’s safety.
“”It’s rough. These guys are part of your family and you don’t realize until you don’t have them anymore,” Johns said. “We’re doing everything we can, but we’re very upset about it. It’s been a long night trying to sleep and wondering where he is.
“We just want him home safe.”
They are pleading with the thieves to drop him off at a shelter, vet officer, or even just in their neighbourhood.
“[We’re in] absolute disbelief,” Johns said. “We feel like we live in a bubble in this neighbourhood aand to have somehting like this happen was quite shocking.”
He says Rosco is a happy, friendly dog — about 85 pounds, beige with a lack muzzle and one floppy ear, with yellow and golden eyes.
Johns’ truck is a grey 2013 Toyota Tundra with a two-inch lift kit, silver running boards, tinted back windows and a dent in the right side of the back bumper, with no rearview mirror.
His license plate is VAK-510.
