Calgary police charge man in alleged sexual assault of employee

Calgary police have charged a man in connection to the alleged sexual assault of his employee that happened last December.

Investigators say on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, an employee of a restaurant and bar on 17 Avenue SW went to a social function with their manager at another downtown location.

Later in the evening, the woman was taken to a downtown home where she reportedly lost consciousness, and investigators believe she was subjected to unwanted, non-consensual sexual acts.

Police have now charged 42-year-old Grant Lee Cichacki with one count of sexual assault.

He is set to appear in court on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

“I want to thank the victim for coming forward to police. We know how difficult this can be, and the level of trauma that is associated with such offences,” Staff Sgt. Tom Hanson said in a statement. “Sexual contact with a person is never acceptable without clear, voluntary and specific consent. It requires a conscious, operating mind, capable of granting, revoking or withholding consent.”

In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault.

Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it to police, even if many years have passed since the incident.

Those with information about this incident or similar incidents are asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
