Calgary fire crews remain on scene of a house fire in the city’s southeast Thursday morning.
Battalion Chief Scott Cowan says crews were called out to the community of McKenzie Lake shortly after 9:20 a.m. Thursday morning.
“A neighbour in the area called in a fire in a house on the 300 block of Mount Brewster Close. When crews arrived they found lots of fire on the back side of the structure extending to the house next door,” Cowan told CityNews. “Crews did a quick exterior attack and then went inside the structure as well to make sure everybody was evacuated.”
No one was home at the time of the fire except for the family dog, which crews were able to safely evacuate.
“There was no one home at the time but there was a small dog that was inside,” Cowan said. “They rescued the dog and reunited it with the family who showed up on scene shortly after. We evacuated the houses to either side of the building as well, and all those folks were safely evacuated as well.”
Crews say the fire has been contained, however crews will remain on site until it’s been completely put out.
