Dog stolen from SW Calgary driveway dies after being hit on Stoney Trail

The desperate search for a missing dog who was inside a vehicle stolen from a Lakeview driveway Wednesday morning has ended in tragedy.

CityNews first spoke to Craig Johns and Lisa Wieidemann-Johns, the owners of Rosco, a three-year-old German Shepherd, Thursday morning.

Rosco was inside Johns’ truck when he quickly ran back in the house to grab his wallet Wednesday morning.

Seconds after running into his home, he heard his truck start and drive away with the dog inside.

The family issued a plea to the public for help locating their beloved dog, offering a $5,000 reward for his safe return.

However, the family has now informed CityNews that Rosco has died.

They say he was given CPR and rushed to a veterinarian’s office after being hit by a car on Stoney Trail Thursday night, but it was too late.

The family also said they’re extremely grateful for all of the community support they’ve received, adding it’s a rough world, but people still have big hearts.
