Jellyfish sculpture stolen from Calgary Beakerhead sought by police

A jellyfish-shaped sculpture was stolen during the Calgary Beakerhead event in September, and police are turning to the public for help.

Beakerhead has had a post pinned on their X page since the incident happened, saying that despite the metal sculpture being secured, it was taken.

“We’re heartbroken,” the post reads. “We just want the piece returned.”

Police say the artist finished installing the sculpture, which included anchors welded to it and bolted to the ground, at around 1 a.m. on Sept. 16 at Millenium Park on 12 Street and 9 Avenue SW in downtown Calgary.

Meanwhile, at around 10 a.m., the middle piece of the sculpture was reported missing, but investigators say the anchor that was welded to the sculpture was still in the ground.

As a result, officers are seeking any information about the sculpture, whether photos, videos, or CCTV footage that was taken, between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. at Millenium Park.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
