A hefty piece of steel is soon to be on display at BMO Centre on Calgary's Stampede grounds.

A new piece of art worth $2.25 million will grace the entrance of the new BMO Centre in Calgary, starting in June 2023.

The new piece, by U.K. artist Gerry Judah, was chosen from a pool of 218 from all all around the world.

‘Spirit of Water” — which resembles a giant water drop — is 70 feet tall and 112,000 pounds.

The piece is made of more than 200 vertical steel tubes to recreate a splash of water.

Judah’s work of large and striking pieces can be seen at similar facilities in the U.K., New Zealand, and the United Arab Emirates.

Back in 2013, a giant blue ring — with a price tap of $500,000 — drew harsh criticism from Calgarians.

City council voted to suspend Calgary’s public art program in 2017 after outcry over the Bowfort Towers on 16 Avenue.
