ALERT charges Calgary man in alleged luring of Oregon teenager

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) Child Exploitation unit has charged a Calgary man for allegedly luring an American teenager online.

According to investigators, the suspect had been communicating online with the Oregon teen for three years, during which time he wired her money in exchange for sexual images and videos, sent her child sexual abuse material, as well as videos of himself.

ALERT also says the suspect attempted to get a NEXUS card so he could travel across the border and visit her in the U.S.

“While she has not engaged with this man since March, he has continued the online conversations,” said Cst. Candace Harris with ALERT ICE.

They say she reported the offences back in July.

William Seymour, 61, was arrested and charged with various offences, including child luring, make sexually explicit material available to a child, as well as make, possess and access child pornography.

During the search of the man’s home, ICE seized a number of computers and other electronic devices. Those devices will continue to be investigated, according to ALERT.

Seymour was released from custody with conditions ahead of his next court appearance on Nov. 17.

ALERT says the 17-year-old victim reported the offences online through Cybertip.ca, Canada’s online tip line for reporting online child sexual exploitation operated by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.
