Calgary begins demolition of former Lilydale Poultry Plant

A former chicken plant in a southeast Calgary neighbourhood began to fall Wednesday morning.
The city has started to demolish the former Lilydale Poultry Plant on Hurt Road in the Ramsay neighbourhood.
The infamous building caused a lot of frustration for people living in the area over the years because of the smell and the noise, with many people describing the building as a terrible neighbour.

It opened in 1943 before closing down in 2021 and moving to an industrial area deeper in the southeast.
Following the demolition, the former site of the building is expected to be used for construction of the Green Line LRT project.
