Calgary police look to identify road rage assault suspect

Calgary police are looking for a man they say assaulted another driver after a road rage incident in the city’s southwest in September.

Investigators say on Thursday, Sept. 7, police were called to follow-up on a report of a fight happening at the halfway point between Sarcee Trail SW and Old Banff Coach Road SW.

The victim was driving a black 2010 Acura TL south on Sarcee Trail SW, continuing west onto Bow Trail SW, when his vehicle moved close to another vehicle, thought to be a black Toyota Highlander, in the lane beside him.

The driver of the Acura continued driving west on Bow Trail SW, according to police, when at the midway point between Sarcee and Old Banff Coach Road SW, a different vehicle — a white Chevrolet Silverado 1500 — aggressively pulled ahead of him and hit the brakes hard.

Police say the driver of the truck then got out of his vehicle and started to shout, while kicking the victim’s vehicle.

The victim stayed in his vehicle and rolled down his window to talk to the man, when that driver started to punch him in the face and head, causing him to lose consciousness.

While the victim was unconscious, the man tried to pull him out of the vehicle and continued to assault him until two passersby stopped and intervened, pulling the man away from the victim and calling 911.

He fled the scene before police got there.

According to police, the suspect’s vehicle is a white Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with aftermarket black tires, writing on the box, and an aftermarket Chevrolet logo on the front.

The suspect is described as between 5’6″ and 5’8″ tall, with a medium, athletic build, blond hair and blue eyes.

Police say he may be related to the driver of the Toyota Highlander.

Investigators are looking for CCTV or dashcam footage from people who may have been in either the Coach Hill area at the time of the assault, or may have travelled on Sarcee Trail or Bow Trail SW in the area at the time of the assault.

Anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or any other information related to the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
