Calgary police say a collision between a cyclist and a vehicle that closed part of Macleod Trail for hours Wednesday, involved a man on a bicycle who was riding against traffic.
Investigators say on Wednesday, officers were called to the intersection of Macleod Trail and Shawnessy Boulevard SE for reports of an accident.
Police believe a man was riding a bike northbound in the right lane of southbound Macleod Trail SE, while reportedly yelling and waving a broom at vehicles.
At the same time, a minivan driven by a man in his 80s was driving southbound in the same lane.
As the van came to the overpass for Shawnessy Boulevard SE, the driver of the van hit the cyclist.

Due to the impact, the cyclist was left with serious, life-threatening injuries, police say.
The bike was then thrown into oncoming traffic where it was hit and became wedged under a small sedan driven by a woman in her 50s.
The car came to a stop a short distance after hitting the bike, according to investigators.
The van had ‘significant’ damage to its front and came to a stop just south of the overpass, police say.
Neither of the drivers were injured in the collision.
