Three people have been stabbed at Market Mall on Black Friday — one of whom is fighting for their life in hospital — Calgary police say.

On a social media post on X, officers say they were on the scene at 2:40 p.m. for reports of an “assault with a weapon” on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

“One person was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. Two others were transported with non-life-threatening injuries,” the post on X reads.

EMS tells CityNews it cleared the scene just before 4:15 p.m.

Calgary police also said that four people had been arrested in connection with the incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

S Sgt. Lon Brewster tells reporters officers were called to the mall on multiple reports of a fight. He says investigators believe the two groups are known to each other.

“This is not a random attack. This was two opposing groups that had had some issues with each other that chose to try and settle that within the confines of the mall rather than somewhere else. So there is no risk to public safety,” he said.

Police don’t believe the incident is gang-related.

Charges have not been filled at this time. Brewster says they are in custody to be interviewed to determine their association with the incident.

Meanwhile, on the same day a few hours later, Airdrie RCMP responded to multiple stabbings just before 7 p.m. at Crossiron Mills mall.
