Alberta RCMP to review investigation which wrongfully charged teen brothers in NE Calgary shooting

Calgary Police Chief Mark Neufeld says the Alberta RCMP will be reviewing the actions of CPS members that saw two young brothers charged in connection to a murder.
“What’d we’d be looking at is just the change of events leading up to investigators believing that had reasonable and probable grounds to lay charges.”
Police charged a 14-year-old with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder on Nov. 14 for a shooting that happened the day before in Marlborough Park.

His 18-year-old brother was charged with accessory to murder after the fact.
The charges against both were dropped less than a week later when new evidence came to light.
Neufeld has also said the community has raised concerns that racial profiling was part of the reason behind the charges, which will be looked at in the RCMP’s independent review.
Calgary police issued a public apology for the incorrect arrests and told CityNews last week they were looking for someone to conduct an independent review into what went wrong and what can be done better in the future.
