A snowfall warning issued for Calgary on Friday morning has ended.
Meantime, snow is continuing to fall in the Foothills, which is expected to see between 10 and 20 centimetres by the end of the day.
A snowfall warning has also been issued for Diamond Valley, as well as K-Country.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in this heavy snow, significantly impacting the commute.
Calgary Transit activated it’s snow detours late Friday morning, saying it will help to reduce the number of buses that get stuck and keep transit moving as smoothly as possible. ‘
Snow detours will be in place until at least the end of service on Saturday, Dec. 9, the city says.
Weather conditions are being actively monitored by city crews, and an update will be provided when detours are lifted.
“We follow weather forecasts closely, but we all know that things can change quickly and unexpectedly in Calgary,” said Stephen Tauro, Manager of Transit Service Support, in a statement. “We wanted to avoid confusion during the morning commute as much as possible, which is why we waited until after the morning rush to activate our snow detours, allowing us time to fully communicate with customers.”
A list of all bus routes that can snow detours can be found on Calgary Transit’s website.
