Alberta cabinet minister Jason Nixon says his son has been removed from a ventilator and has been transferred out of intensive care into a rehabilitation unit following a car crash earlier in December.
Nixon announced on Dec. 4 that he would be taking time away from his job as seniors, community and social services minister after his two youngest children were involved in a crash.
He’d said at the time his 16-year-old daughter sustained no major injuries and was recovering, but that his son Austin was in critical but stable condition.
Nixon and his wife thanked people in a social media post on Saturday for their prayers and encouragement and said they can now speak with Austin as he learns to move, speak and walk again.
“We will never be able to truly express our gratitude to all emergency responders, health care workers who have and continue to provide exceptional care to Austin,” Nixon’s letter on X reads.
We will also never be able to fully express to our family, friends, and thousands of prayer warriors how grateful we are for their support and care during this difficult time.”
