A home in west Lethbridge was caught in a blaze, and it jumped to two other homes due to heavy winds on Boxing Day afternoon.
In a statement from Lethbridge city officials, one house on Iroquois Crescent West was fully engulfed by flames when fire crews arrived on the scene.
Due to high winds, the fire spread to neighbouring homes on either side of the house where it began.
However, a fourth house and other homes across the street were prevented from catching fire by crews.
“Fire crews were able to stop the fire from jumping to a fourth house and to the houses across the street. There was, however, significant damage to the three homes,” the city said.
The Lethbridge Fire Department responded with a “five station” response, with 30 firefighters and 11 fire apparatus attending the scene.
“Crews remained on scene late into the evening monitoring for hotspots,” the city said.
The city says there is extensive damage to the three homes, with the city estimating the cost at $2 million in total.
None of the families or firefighters involved were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
