Tips on disposing Christmas trees in Calgary

If you are ready to ditch the Christmas clutter, the City of Calgary is way ahead of you with all the ways to get rid of your real tree.

It says the first step is to remove all lights, ornaments and tinsel before cutting the tree into small pieces.

Place it in your green cart and ensure the lid can close. If your cart is full you can put branches in paper yard waste bags and set them two feet from your cart.

Trees not properly prepped will not be collected.

The city also says not to wrap, tie or bag your tree, even if the bag is labelled as “compostable or biodegradable.”

Several drop-off locations around the city will be open until Jan. 31.

Those locations are listed below.

For City landfill locations, which include the East Calgary Landfill, Spyhill Landfill, and Shepard Landfill; they say those bringing any garbage along with their tree will be subject to regular landfill fees.
