A break-and-enter call resulted in a trip to the hospital for a Calgary police officer Friday and the downing of power in a northeast neighbourhood.
Residents in Savanna Landing and Savanna Garden were awoken by the sounds of banging and screaming.
Calgary police say officers arrived at a home in the area in Saddleridge around 4 a.m. after getting calls of a break-and-enter.
It’s then believed that a foot chase ensued in which one of the officers chased the suspect before they supposedly slipped and seriously hurt their leg.
“There was police chasing a guy, and police crashed into the car, the guy’s car, so the guy ran out,” a witness told CityNews.
“Police chased after him. He fell. He hurt himself.”

Prior to the chase, it’s believed the suspect drove into an electrical box, which resulted in power going out for a few homes — 10 homes to be exact according to the ENMAX Outage Portal.
The suspect was arrested, but very few other details are being made available.
EMS confirms the cop was taken to hospital.
The garage of a nearby home was wrecked, a Mercedes Benz was totalled, and the electrical box was ripped out of the ground.
Hours after the chaos ensued, crews were still busy cleaning up.
