Man, 80, injured in road rage incident airlifted to hospital: RCMP

An 80-year-old man was airlifted to hospital Friday following a road rage incident at a gas station in Beiseker, northeast of Calgary, Mounties say.

RCMP say a man came into the Beiseker detachment at around 8 a.m. on Jan. 5 and told them he got into a fight with another man and “may have injured him.”

When they arrived at the Centex Gas Station, they found the victim with serious injuries.

EMS and STARS were called and the victim was transported to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Investigators say the assault was the result of a road rage incident that occurred on the highway, but it’s unclear where exactly.

The suspect allegedly broke the victim’s vehicle window and stole his vehicle keys after the incident, Mounties say.

Chris Shearer, 56, of Drumheller faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, robbery, and mischief.

Mounties say he was taken into custody. His next court date is set for Feb. 1 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie.

Editor’s note: The date of the incident has been updated after RCMP corrected the date of the incident from Jan. 6 to Jan. 5.
