2 teens charged after fight breaks out at YMCA: Calgary police

Calgary police have placed charges on two teen boys after they fought another youth inside a YMCA in the city’s southeast community of Seton Friday.
Officers say they responded to the Brookfield Residential YMCA in Seton at around 4:30 p.m. after the facility reported the two boys entered the fitness centre through an emergency exit.
The facility says the teens started a fight with another youth inside the facility and then fled the building.
No injuries were reported.

Once police located one of the boys, they found a fake firearm on him. While trying to arrest the suspect, the other boy attacked an officer, inflicting aa minor injury.
The boys aged 13 and 14 both face multiple charges, with the former facing three counts of assault and mischief, while the latter faces seven counts that include assault against a peace officer.
“It’s very concerning to see this kind of violent behaviour in a public place, from people so young,” says Supt. Joe Brar of the Calgary Police Service in a news release.
“But the quick actions of our officers and the staff at the YMCA allowed the situation to be resolved quickly to ensure there was no danger or injury to members of the public. We continue to work with our partners to ensure the safety of public spaces in our community.”
The suspects cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will appear in court on Jan. 19.
