Northern Alberta community rallies for family of 6-year-old hit by drunk driver

A young girl lies in a coma at an Edmonton hospital after being hit by a vehicle in northern Alberta.
On the afternoon of Dec. 29, six-year-old Kaia Davis was in the driveway of her home in Fort McMurray when she was hit by a car.
A statement from her family posted online says she was airlifted to the Stollery Childrens Hospital in Edmonton with life-altering injuries, and remains in a coma.
Touched by the incident, the community is pulling together in support of the Davis family.
To date, a GoFundMe organized by Kaia’s sister has raised more than $14,000.
She says her parents ask people to pray for their “little fighter.”
An online raffle organized by a local business has raised more than $20,000.
In a Facebook post, Prestige Jewellers thanks everyone for their support and hopes to provide an update after meeting with the family.
In a statement, the girl’s family thanked the community for the ongoing support, adding they’ll stay by Kaia’s side through one of the hardest fights of her life.
Meanwhile, RCMP have confirmed the male driver of the vehicle has been arrested and faces charges related to impaired driving.
If convicted, the accused could spend up to 10 years in prison.
His next court appearance is Jan. 31.
