Alberta childcare operators warn of rolling daycare closures, call for government action

By CityNews Staff

Childcare operators in Alberta are sounding the alarm about potential rolling daycare closures, as they urgently call for government intervention.

The association representing both ‘for-profit’ and non-profit childcare centers and dayhome operators states that they continue to face significant challenges with the new ‘Ten-Dollar-a-Day’ childcare program.

They assert that ‘underfunding’ has placed an unbearable strain on their ability to provide services.

Operators argue that they are not being reimbursed quickly enough, and the money they receive does not cover their costs.

They are calling for emergency funding to sustain their participation in the program.

The Association of Alberta Childcare Entrepreneurs emphasizes that the prospect of rolling closures will be a last resort, intended to raise awareness about their plight.

The AACE says that they welcome constructive discussions with the government to overcome these challenges together.
