Calgary police reopen road in southeast after crash

Calgary police have reopened 36 Street SE between 14 and 16 Avenue SE after it was closed for several hours following a major crash Monday morning.

“From what I can see, from my point of view, there’s three vehicles in the middle of the road — two with really badly damaged front ends and a third vehicle that’s kind of stuck in between,” CityNews cameraman Nick Blakeney explained. “Police collision reconstruction is on scene and they are conducting their investigation at this time.”

Fire and EMS attended the scene and fire had to extricate some people from vehicles, Acting Sgt. Jason Van Dorp said.

Three people were taken to hospital — one in critical condition, and two in non-life-threatening-condition.

A fourth person was treated on scene and released, he added.

“At this point, we think a vehicle crossed the centre line to cause the collision, we don’t know what lead to that,” Van Dorp said.

Investigation into the incident continues, officials said Tuesday, while asking that anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage contact police.
