Man charged in December CTrain stabbing: Calgary police

Calgary police have charged one man in connection to a stabbing last month on a crowded CTrain downtown.

Around 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 17, officers were called for reports of a man who had been stabbed on a train near the 500 block of 7 Avenue SW.

Investigators believe the suspect, who didn’t know the victim, approached them while “aggressively gesturing and threatening,” before stabbing them.

Police say the victim was seriously injured and taken to hospital in stable condition.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 24, after a month-long investigation that involved Calgary Transit peace officers and CCTV pictures.

Kevin Jhoan Botina has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.

The 22-year-old Calgarian is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
