Calgary police: Five people facing 50 charges for fleeing from police

Calgary police say three men and two women are facing more than 50 charges for speeding away from officers in multiple stolen vehicles before being arrested, resulting in the seizure of two guns and some drugs.

On Tues. Jan 30, around 12:30 a.m. police saw a 2014 Ford Explorer SUV with a stole license plate on Elbow Drive SW and 75 Avenue, and when officers tried to stop it, the vehicle drove away at a high speed.

HAWCS was engaged and police followed the vehicle until the suspects got out in an underground parkade at 2020 4 Street SW, according to Calgary police.

The suspects then got into a white 2023 Audi A3 and left the parkade.

Investigators say one of the suspects rented the Audi through a car rental company.

Around 1:45 a.m., police tried to stop the vehicle but again, it drove away at a high speed.

HAWCS continued to follow the Audi and around 2:25 a.m., police saw a bag that was thrown from the car near an alley on McIntosh Road NE.

Police seized the bag, which had a loaded firearm, ammunition, binoculars, and duct tape.

A short time later, officers saw a man and a woman get out of the Audi in a parking lot at 5125 126 Avenue SE. Police say at this time, police also saw a white Ford F150 truck parked in the parking lot, also thought to be stolen. Two men and a woman were inside that vehicle.

After the woman and one of the men got out of the truck, police arrested them, while the driver of the truck fled with the male suspect from the Audi at a high rate of speed.

As a resut, police seized a loaded gun. a stolen passport, a stolen license plate, and other stolen documents from the Audi.

A short time later, police found the truck unoccupied in the Ogden area, and the two suspects were seen observing getting in to another stolen vehicle, a silver 2008 Pontiac Torrent, and they continued to run from police until the driver eventually stopped in an alley near Erin Woods Drive SE, where the driver was arrested.

Police say the man who was a passenger moved into the driver’s seat and continued to drive away from police toward Buffalo Run Boulevard SW, when Tsuut’ina police were able to stop it with a spike belt.

The suspect was arrested on 37 Street where investigators seized a small amount of drugs and a weapon.
