Calgary highways and roads are being blanketed with snow on Sunday, creating a mess for drivers and commuters alike.
This slow accumulation is making several areas throughout the city slick and slippery.
With the snow will come the ice, as temperatures will drop to near -10 C overnight.
City of Calgary crews are out tackling those busy routes, applying material, and plowing through lanes.
When all is said and done we could see about four centimetres fall, and with those temperatures dropping it will lead to the formation of ice in some areas.
Motorists are reminded to be prepared before heading out by leaving plenty of time to get to where they need to go and adapt to the changing weather.
Another disruption to watch out for if you’re a Calgary Transit Red Line customer, as the Victoria Park/Stampede Station will be using the southbound track only for both directions of CTrain travel until 7 p.m.
More information on the City’s snow removal response can be found online.
Snowfall continues in southern Alberta
Environment and Climate Change Canada says heavy snowfall in southern Alberta is continuing Sunday, with around 10 to 25 cm more expected.
Some areas have already seen 10 to 20 cm of snow near and west of Highway 2. An additional 2 to 4 centimetres more is expected to fall.
The ECCC also says around 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected east of Highway 2. It adds the snowfall will end Sunday evening.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” the ECCC said.
It asks Albertans to adjust their driving to changing road conditions.
