Didsbury RCMP arrest ‘armed and dangerous’ pair, lift shelter in place

The RCMP north of Calgary were asking some residents to shelter in place while it worked to track two suspects believed to be armed and dangerous Friday morning.

Didbury RCMP were trying to find a woman and a man armed with guns west of Carstairs, investigators said.

Just after 9:30 a.m. RCMP said the shelter in place had been lifted and the two suspects had been arrested.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff told CityNews the suspects took off on foot after the getaway car they used for a break and enter got stuck.

“We have them fairly contained,” he said at the time. “That being said, there are some rural residents in that area that we are attempting to communicate with.”

Police were asking residents living between Township Road 303 and Highway 580 and between Range Road 15 and Range Road 20 to shelter in place, lock their doors, and call 911 if they see anyone suspicious.

“It’s just important to lock your doors, stay inside, and if you see anybody in your yard or in your area, call 911 immediately,” Savinkoff said.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.
