Calgary police are investigating after a man in his 40s was shot in the city’s northwest Thursday morning.
Officers were called to Sage Meadows green for reports of a shooting around 8:30 a.m., police say.
When they arrived, police found a man who had been shot.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say a short time later, police were called for reports of a vehicle fire in the nearby community of Evanston. e
Police believe the two events are connected, adding the vehicle was used in the shooting before being abandoned and set on fire on Evansglen Close NW.
Although the investigation is in it’s early stages, police believe the shooting was targeted and are also exploring possible connections to organized crime conflict in Calgary.

A resident who spoke to CityNews calls the incident worrisome.
“There’s a lot of young kids on this street and in my household as well. So the idea that kids could be walking to and from home to the bus stop, encountering or seeing something like this while these vehicles are driving away, it’s a concern,” he said.
Investigators are looking at CCTV and interviewing witnesses, and ask anyone with information who has not yet spoken with police to come forward.
In a statement, Sgt. Mark Rahn of the Organized Crime Operations Unit called the incident “brazen,” adding that it “has the hallmarks of organized crime.”
Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the 100 block of Evansglen Close NW and 200 block of Sage Meadows Green NW from 8:20 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Thursday is asked to come forward.
Those with any information about this incident are asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
