Calgarians charged with animal cruelty

Calgary police have charged three people in two different animal cruelty incidents, it said Tuesday.
On Sunday, Jan. 7, police responded to a call from a a local vet clinic after an unconscious 11-week-old puppy was brought into the clinic after eating illegal drugs.
Investigators went to the clinic and seized the dog while the employees provided life-saving care to the dog.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, investigators searched home on Centre Street NW, where they seized a gun. ammunition, illegal drugs, and stolen property.
Police say City of Calgary bylaw officers helped seize another dog and nine more puppies.
Christie Lee Sims and Ryan Clyde Bonnell, both 44-year-olds from Calgary, have each been charged with one count of causing damage to animals, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of hazardous storage of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Sims is set to appear in court on Tuesday, March 5, while Bonnell will be in court on Thursday, Feb. 29.
Police say the next day — Wednesday Feb. 7 — officers responded to a call from a different local vet about a severely injured dog.
After the vet spoke with the man who brought in the injured dog, there was indication that another dog had been killed, according to authorities.
On Thursday, Feb. 8, investigators searched a house on 33 Avenue NW, where they seized a gun and two more dogs.
Fifty-one-year-old Jeffrey Alan McLarty has been charged with one count of killing or injuring animals, one count of cruelty to animals, one count of causing damage to animals, and one count of criminal harassment.
He has also been charged with two counts of causing distress under the Animal Protection Act.
