Calgary police arrest 2 in alleged drug trafficking operation

Calgary police have charged a man and a woman in a drug trafficking investigation that led to the seizure of more than $85,000 in drugs, a loaded gun, and five replica firearms.

Investigators say in January 2024, police received information from the public about alleged drug trafficking happening at multiple places throughout the city and in surrounding rural communities.

On Monday, Feb. 19, after a month-long investigation, police executed a warrant and searched a house on Sarcee Road SW.

One man and one woman were found in the house and police seized several items, including cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, drug packaging, one loaded handgun, and five replica guns.

Dana Christopher Sutherland, 40, and Alyssa Lee Beauchamp, 25, have each been charged with one count of unsafe storage of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm without a license, one count of possession of a restricted magazine, one count of possession of a firearm with readily accessible ammunition, one count of possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, six counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, and seven counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The 40-year-old has also been charged with one count of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000 and two counts of breaching a firearm prohibition.

Sutherland and Beauchamp are both set to appear in court on Monday, March 4.
