Alberta RCMP continue search for suspect in crash involving deer

Mounties are asking for help finding the driver of a truck that struck a Cochrane man on a highway east of Calgary before speeding away.

RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff tells CityNews they are now looking for a 2016 Ram 1500 Sport in the search for the hit-and-run driver behind the incident along Highway 1A near Township Road 260 at about 7 p.m. on Feb. 21.

Jake Tiefengraber and his girlfriend were travelling behind several cars which struck a deer before the animal was sent airborne into their vehicle.

He says he stepped outside the car after it was pulled into the shoulder to check the damage.

And that’s when he was struck.

The 25-year-old is still recovering from extensive injuries including a shattered ankle and concussion.

Savinkoff says they’ve received few tips on the file and ask anyone with information to call Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
