Daylight shooting at SE Calgary hotel leaves one man dead

One man has died in what Calgary police are calling a suspicious death at a hotel in south Calgary.

A man is dead and one person is in custody following a shooting at a hotel in SE Calgary.

Calgary police say officers were called to a Super 8 on Shawville Road, near 162 Avenue SE and Macleod Trail, around 3 p.m. Monday for reports of gunshots.

A man was found injured inside a fourth floor suite and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police tell CityNews one person is in custody and they are working to confirm their exact involvement in the incident.

The homicide unit has been notified and will be attending the scene.

Acting Staff Sgt. Juno Brady says the entire hotel is being held as a crime scene for the time being.

“With something like this, the whole hotel is potentially a crime scene,” he says. “The parking lot as well.”

He says it is too early in the investigation to determine if the incident was targeted.
