Snowy, chilly start to Easter weekend before warmup arrives

Warmer more seasonal weather is on the way for Calgary but the city will still need to fight through a couple more winter-like days to kickoff the Easter weekend.

CityNews meteorologist Kevin Stanfield says a temperature turnaround is on the horizon, but not before the city sees more cold and potentially snowy weather late Thursday.

“Cooler weather is expected to prevail overnight,” he says. “We run the risk of some overnight flurries.”

Thursday night will see an overnight low around -7 C, feeling closer to -15 with the windchill.

More flurries are in store for Friday afternoon with 1 to 3 centimetres of snowfall in the forecast. The Good Friday holiday will bring a daytime high around -5 C and a low near -13 C.

“We start to return to something closer to normal as we push to Saturday,” says Stanfield, calling for mainly sunny skies with a high of -2 C and a low of -9 C.

The warmup begins on Sunday when temperatures will climb above freezing to a daytime high near 3 C. Monday will be even warmer with a high around 6 C.

Tuesday is when the spring weather could really take hold with Environment Canada calling for temperatures to reach the high double digits.
