Calgary moves one step closer to boosting road safety funding

Airdrie RCMP say a woman rescued from an Irricana home early Saturday morning was treated at Foothills Hospital for smoke inhalation.

A woman has been taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after her home northeast of Calgary was impacted by a garage fire Saturday, Airdrie RCMP says.

Mounties say they received a report for a welfare check for a resident living on Gib Bell Close in Irricana at around 5:45 a.m.

Smoke was seen coming from the home upon arrival, and police say the fire department and EMS arrived to assist.

They say efforts to enter the home and check on her welfare were “hampered” by flames spreading from an attached garage.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and EMS took her to Calgary Foothills for treatment.

Mounties say the cause is unknown at this time.
